I woke up to dog kisses to the face.
“Alright, boy” I laughed as I scratched behind the dogs’ ears, “We can go now.”
I followed the dog down the road and into a ruined town. I could hear gunfire getting closer as we snaked our way through the dilapidated streets, the dog growling as we got nearer to the action. As we rounded the corner of a collapsed building, I saw over a dozen raiders trying to storm a building at the end of the road, a man on the balcony of the top floor was pinning them down and preventing them from leaving their cover.
A perfect opportunity for me to attack, I thought to myself as I snuck up behind the nearest raider and opened fire. One, two, three raiders were down in the blink of an eye, short bursts from my rifle were enough to take care of them, and the dog took care of another one that was cowering behind some sandbags.
By now, the remaining raiders made a desperate play for the door, firing at the man on the balcony while sprinting for the safety of the building’s interior. Six of them made it, the rest weren’t so lucky.
“Hey, sweetheart,” the man called out from up above, “Took your sweet time getting here!”
He saluted with much vigour, “In the digital flesh. Now, be a pal and come and kill those raiders, huh?”
I nodded my head and whistled for the dog to follow me inside. Already, the raiders had made their way up to the next level and were closing in on the barricaded door that Gary was behind. They hadn’t noticed me enter the building yet, so I was able to unload on them and turn them into raider paste.
The next two raiders were further in on the second floor. I shot the valve off a propellant tank to confuse them and gunned them both down while they were searching for me.
And finally, the last two raiders were outside the door that Gary was behind. I wasn’t able to get too close to them without them realising, but the result was the same as before, I emptied my clip into these two men and gave a wicked smirk as I saw them fall to the ground in a pool of their own blood.
Finally, I made it inside the room and found the man that Gary had taken control of as well as a handful of other NPC’s.
“Nice work, Sage!” Gary called out, “But the jobs not done, I’m sending more raiders this way but fear not my badass, mass-murdering friend, because I have a present for you.”
“I like your hat!” I stated, hoping to upgrade from the one I’d just picked up.
“Well, you can’t have it! I look way too dapper in this getup to part with it!”
I chuckled at Gary’s response, “Fine! I’ll stick with my one. How’s Shaela doing?”
“Good… Not as fun as you, but she’s got her task under control.”
I gave Gary a withering look, “And what exactly is her task?”
“Same as before,” he shrugged, “But she’s going to enter in a single digit of the code in-between each bomb she disarms, I’ve given her a backdoor into the system, but Virgil will know something is up if she tries to enter it too fast, and then you, me and your tall, grey friend will be toast! Should be done before the bombs go off.”
“Okay, wise guy, so I’m guessing that you’re sending raiders here to… ‘Keep up appearances,’ right?”
Gary nodded and then pointed to the door behind me, “Just so, now head out that door, take a left, and at the end of the corridor, there’s a door that leads to the roof. Your present is waiting for you up there.”
I followed Gary’s directions, the dog following me closely as I climbed the stairs and opened the door to the roof. I squealed in delight at the sight that was in front of me, so unlike me and so embarrassing but I didn’t care, because Gary had given me a suit of Power Armour.
– YOU LIKE IT? –
Gary had reverted to his original A.I. form but was much closer than normal, I could hear his voice inside my head, as opposed to all around me.
“I love it!” I replied, “But this helmet just won’t do, it hides my fantastic hat!”
– CAN’T HAVE THAT NOW, CAN WE? –
I nodded my head in agreement as I chucked the helmet on the ground and stepped inside my not so shiny suit of power armour.
“Okay, time to go kick some raider arse!”
– YOU’LL BE PLEASED TO KNOW THAT THIS SUIT HAS A STEREO INSTALLED, WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO PLAY YOU A SONG? –
“Yeah, play me something that’ll help me kill a lot of raiders, play me something REALLY epic!”
– PLAYING “TINY LITTLE ISLAND” BY VILLAINY –
“Um… Not really what I had in mind, but hey, I can make this work.”
– ATTA GIRL! –
A little bit of something different at the end there with the music, I hope you enjoyed Gary trolling Sage with his song choice. I know that there weren’t enough images to last the whole song but sadly the raiders died way to fast!
Villainy is a New Zealand Alt-Rock band that I absolutely love, so thought I’d share some of that love with you guys.
