First Halloween

Operation: Cunning Plan

This story is dedicated to my late Granny. I wanted to find some way for you all to meet her, as she was an amazing woman. So Operation: Cunning Plan came into effect. I aged-down almost everyone I could get my hands on so you could Trick-or-Treat her, leaving only a few adult chaperones to look after the mini-simselves. I hope you enjoy my little story about my Granny, and I wonder if you’ll notice a few other sneaky things I added.

Halloween will never be the same again for my family. Not that it was a big deal down here in my neck of the woods; I guess it just didn’t catch on where I lived. Mind you, who’s to say that three streets over, the side-walks weren’t filled with children going out Trick or Treating? But for me and my family, it was almost as if it never truly existed.

Empty Streets 2 Empty StreetsIn our street, we were lucky if we got a few groups on Halloween, dressed up and in search of bountiful treats of the candy variety, sometimes not even that. But it always paid to be prepared, so we bought a lot of candy anyway, in case monsters did turn up. On the bright side of living in a street where Halloween wasn’t a major thing, we got to finish our own candy.

CandyTime2CandyTimeEmpty streets and an abundance of left over candy aside, Halloween was always important to our family. Not for any of the above reasons – sure it was fun to dress up, although I mainly did this part as an adult, I never got to go out Trick or Treating – No, it was because Halloween was my grandmother’s birthday, and she embraced the day not just as the day she was born, but an opportunity to go just a little bit bonkers.

Peggy'sRadiantSmileShe would often dress up as a witch, and she would go all-out in decorating her house. When children knocked on the door she always answered with a smile on her face and a big cauldron of candy in her hand. She would put on her most convincing witch voice, and cackle away as she put in the Halloween themed candy into the children’s goodie bags.

PeggyBeingSillyThere were times when she would pretend that one of the kids had scared her, and hide behind the door, throwing candy out the door screaming, “Aaaaah! A monster! Get away from me you monster! Take the candy!” All the while, young children are in fits of laughter as lollies are tossed in their general direction as a mad old lady was giving them a wonderful, silly show.

1st Lot of Kids
Carewren is on  Halloween duty, looking after these adorable mini-simselves and characters. From front to back we have CitizenErased14, BabyDollAnne, JordanNicoleJJ, Olivia Love, Baby P, Putacece4lyfe, and Jes2G.
2nd Lot of Kids
Pirate CT is looking after this bunch of cute mini-simselves. From left to right we have Rorygilmore34, Ninjapiglet, Julyvee94, SummerFalls, Penguinwa101, and Meggles.
3rd Lot of Kids
Lucas and Makenna are looking after this group of misfits. From left to right we have, MadameLee, Mini-Meatball 1 & Mini-Meatball 2, Ra3rei, Suzume Nakamura, and Sabreene.

Mrs. Doland was a big hit around her neighbourhood, kids would travel from streets away to visit her and witness her in all her goofy brilliance. And some of those kids, weren’t even kids at all. Many teenagers who had experienced her antics would continue to come, well into their teens.

4th Lot of Kids
Wings has the honour of looking after this group of rowdy mini-simselves and characters. From front to back we have, CharmingMaruska, Pegasus143, OJenn, ThePlumbob, Cassie & Gwen Lockwood, and Lizzie1234.
LotS Kids
They’ve escaped Ms. Derby and are ready for treats! And yes, Sophie is in a bear outfit, because she doesn’t deserve to have her face shown!
IronboundTeens&Friends
Who’s idea was it for Galvex to chaperone this group of teenage girls!?! The cast from Ironbound with a few guests. From left to right we have Sage, Leyva, Rose, Nakaia, DreamsInPixels, Shaela, ilovebunnys65, and Galvex.

Marguerite Doland was her name. Peggy to family and friends, but she was always Granny to me. She passed away in March, and this is going to be the first Halloween without her.

MourningHow strange it will be without her. Not just for us, but for those kids that sought her out. Something precious has been lost to this world, someone that could bring out the joy in those around her. But something tells me that she’s not gone, not truly, she’s just changed her costume is all.

ChangingCostumePerhaps she’ll visit us this Halloween, and give us all a nice treat. Although true to her nature, she’s just as likely to trick us!

TricksieGrannyI hope to see you this Halloween Granny, and boy it would be funny if you gave my mum a scare for real!

Author’s Note:

If you want Peggy’s legacy to live on. I’ve uploaded a CC-Free version of her and her house onto the Gallery. I hope you enjoyed your time learning something about my Granny, now you know where my Goofballism comes from!

  1. This was a beautiful and touching tribute to your Granny! That was so lovely, and she sounds like such a fun and bubbly woman. I especially loved your ending. I’m sure she will be with you this Halloween ❤ And what an honor to be included in this. (And, on a lighter note, I loved that Lucas was dressed as Grimmy! XD)

This was so sweet and it was fun to try to guess who everyone was before reading the picture captions. (I adored the Meatballs in their little suits!)

  3. Such a beautiful tribute for your amazing Granny. She sounds like she was loved by everyone. Reading how she went all out on Halloween, throwing candy and being ‘scared’ of the monsters, and how much she was loved… I’m sure she would have loved this tribute. 🙂 Your cunning plan was awesome! And seeing our forum family and the Meatballs there was sooooooo freaking awesome! Run! Or Miss Derby will get you all! 😉

  4. ❤ Beautiful tribute to your gramma. My gramma is also called Peggy 🙂

This was sweet and touching. It is amazing how we carry them in us, your goofballism, even when they are no longer physically here.

Thank you for having Miss P and Baby P be a part of it. And the meatballs were adorable in their suits and slick hair

    1. Whoa! I haven’t heard of anyone else called Peggy! 🙂

There was one time where we went out to dinner with her, and the place had a massive jar of jellybean’s. Granny grabbed the scoop and proceeded to pour scoop after scoop of jellybean’s into a spare sock she’d stashed in her handbag. The rascal had planned it all along! XD

You’re welcome! I’m glad you liked it, and the Meatball’s did look pretty dapper in those suits! 😛

  5. This was so touching. ❤ I'm wiping away tears. Such a sweet way to honor your granny, and I'm glad we all got to sort of meet her. I'm sure she was an amazing woman. And she lives on in you. I love that you got your goofballism from her.

There seems to be some many of us from the forum group that have lost our grandmothers this past year. We have a little support group. Coincidentally I wrote a Sim-story in honor of my grandmother after she passed too.

And by the way, it's funny that you had my Simself as a chaperone. You have no idea how true to RL that is for me. lol

  7. What a privilege it is to be able to participate in such a loving tribute! She sounds like a real gem of a goofball; one of a kind for sure! I loved reading about how she really got into the spirit of Halloween and made all the trick-or-treaters’ night extra special. Such an amazing woman. ❤

Loved seeing everyone in their little costumes! And the Mini Meatballs were the icing on the cake. The Ironbound cast were the cherries on top! 🙂

  10. This story was beautiful and touching and brought tears to my eyes! My mother also has a birthday on Halloween, but she never let that get in the way of the festivities, always making sure first and foremost that my sister and I got to fully experience all Halloween had to offer as kids. Somehow this story just really made me think of my mom, so it really struck a chord with me. Thanks so much for sharing your grandma’s story with us!
