Chapter 17

The Party (Part 1)

The night had finally arrived. Princess Leyva approached it with an equal mix of excitement and trepidation. For the first hour, she was so nervous that she latched on to Shaela and was only capable of small-talk.

Nakaia had disappeared within seconds of crossing the threshold. Leyva knew that she worked for her father, but she wasn’t aware of anything that was happening tonight. She would occasionally catch glimpses of her flitting about in her beautiful orange gown, but never for more than a few seconds, always on the move she was.

“I’m going to get a drink” said Leyva, “Do you want one?”

“No, I think I’ll stay here” replied Shaela. “Besides, this is your party, you have to mingle!”

“I don’t really feel much like mingling at the moment. But you are right, see you soon Red.”

Princess Leyva stood up and climbed the stairs to her fathers private lounge. She wanted some privacy and what better place to find it.

“You know we have staff here to do that for you don’t you?” called out Emperor Saarang to his daughter.

She had hoped to hide in here for a little while longer but with the appearance of her father, she knew that people were starting to question where she was.

“I’ll be down soon father, just needed some time to clear my head.”

“I’ll tell them your ‘entertaining’ a guest shall I?” he asked with a cheeky smile on his face.

“Father!” Leyva gasped. “Don’t you dare!”

The emperor chuckled as he left the lounge, leaving his daughter alone once more.

    1. I haven’t actually written it in yet, but let’s just say she’s gone. I might explore that part in future chapters because I’m not sure I know yet what I want ‘gone’ to mean.
